Music

I think people take music too seriously. Music is a wonderful thing it can inspire, change moods, give insights into human nature, and all sort of other stuff. People take all these wonderful things and start making evaluative judgments about the music. I really don’t have a problem with that as I do it more than the average bear. People (myself included) then take it to the next level, they make evaluative judgments about people based on the judgments they made about the music. I think people need to stop taking music so seriously. So what, so and so likes really lame music, if it jingles their bell it’s their choice. Does a person liking lame music make them lame? No. Unless you like Creed, then you are lame.

Thats right, I like Tim McGraw. Stuff that in your pipe and smoke it.

But Creed is lame.

You make the point very well, Dan. Just because you like lame music doesn't mean you are lame--necessarily.

Tim McGraw makes music? I thought he was Faith Hill's wife. I just assumed that he dressed like that because of Faith. Wow turns out he makes music.

Liking Tm McGraw is sort of like pefering GoBots over Transformers or liking Counting Crows. It doesn't make you lame but it does raise make you a suspect.

Don't be talking bad about the Counting Crows.

I long ago came to the conclusion that if I cared what other people thought of my music tastes, I'd be fighting a losing battle. I like country, most people I know don't.

But the Counting Crows are just awesome.

How bout this one Jimmy. What if an individual, who is super lame, likes a good group, does it make that group lamer?

I contend that it does, as that is the main reason I'm not much of a pink floyd fan. (Also my main beef with the Steelers). And the reason that though I know he is cool, I always want to say Freddy Mercury isn't that good.

That's why I don't like any music groups at all, because every good group has millions of lame fans.

I knew bad mouthing the Counting Crows would get a rise out of you. It is so fun.

As for your other statment there are plenty of super lame people that like Jesus, but it doesn't make him lame. What do you got against Jesus Dan?

Counting Crows used to be awesome...but, their last album pretty much sucked.

Don't get me started on Tim McGraw...I've never understood how someone as smart as Dan could be stimulated by songs about barbecue stains on white t-shirts, but whatever.

Right now, Dan's getting ready to type something along the lines of "That's not his only song...have you even heard his other songs?"

Yes I have Dan...and they're lame.

My point -- Tim McGraw is lame and so is Dan. I'm not saying that there's a correlation, not one I can prove, anyway. I'm just sayin'.

Yeah, you're totally right. I find myself wondering about certain people sometimes....but really when I think about it its more or less a logical fallacy. Just because my best friend loves Tom Petty (who has put out two good songs in his long career) doesn't mean she's a moron. Tim McGraw though. That one's suspect. ;)

The more that i think about it, the Counting Crows were never really that awesome. I listened to "August And Everything After" the other day, an album I used to love. But it was all I could to withstand Adam Duritz's whiny delivery and uber-wordy phrasing.

But seriously, after Counting Crows released "Accidentally In Love", it did it in for me. That song is so unbelievably sappy and cringe-inducing. I can't stand it.

But to answer Dan's question, no, a lame person liking something doesn't diminish the value of the liked thing.
